In Ten short days...

Well what do you know? Its still August and here is yet another post! Must be a good sign if I've already come back to post an update on my progress here in 2011?

I have watched a few solid films, including one on the big screen(and in 3d) which was shockingly good, That film happens to be yet another Marvel Studios picture called "Captain America"
The movie was very solid as a whole, Even the 3D wasnt too bad, it didnt bug me as much as some 3D has in the past. Did i want to see it in 3D? No. Would I pay to see it in 3D again? No. But as a whole it wasnt so bad.

The story was solid origins tale that kept it clean and to the point, which has been part of the Marvel studios to do list as we march towards the Avengers next year. I cant wait for that film, or to buy both Thor and Captain America later this year.

It hasnt been too long since I last updated on anything but i did mention I may finish the TV show "Better Off Ted" by my next update, well that isnt really true as I have only finished season 1 of the series but I do enjoy it and will finish it very soon.

As far as Books go I have finally finished another one this time ""Nightlife" came to an end. It was a decent book but in the middle of it all it transcended into a different tale than before and it kind of threw me off for a bit but i grew to like it. I finally finished it and look to read the next book in the series soon enough.

Brian Keene is without a doubt my Favorite Arthur and it seems like forever since i last read some of his work, thankfully he has slowly been releasing his stuff on the Kindle. Which of course means i can take his work with me any place thanks to either my kindle(duh) or my iPhone. As it stands right now i started reading "Take the long way home" Ive already past the quarter way point so it will end very fast sadly. But I will no doubt find more to read from him.

As always I have updated the Movie list and the List of doom. I seem to have been lacking on the list of doom, I should be keeping track of game play and books along with other stuff a bit more. Ill try harder.

Sup August?

July was a very crazy month as it was of course my vacation month, in which case i did sadly go several days without watching a movie.
I wonder how much that has hurt my target goal of 365 films in 365 days?

Must say Comic Con, DisneyLand and The San Diego Zoo sure was worth it tho!

Only two films i saw on the big screen as of late are Transformers 3, Which i must say I did enjoy the 3D and for a bad mindless action movie it was very much a fun summer time popcorn flick. Glad the bimbo was replaced in it. If you enjoyed the other two you shall Love this one.

And also saw the last movie in the decade long, 8 film franchise that is Harry Potter.  I must say i had only read the first 3 or 4 books but the films kept getting better and better, Plus seeing the cast grow and stay together over a decade was just awesome. The movie was a horrible experience tho but that wasnt all to blame on the movie. My theater screwed people into buying 3d midnight release showings only to later at the last hour open a non 3d showing and then not allow transfers of any kind. The 3d was horrible. My seat was horrible. I love Belatrix.

I finally finished the series "Scrubs" not too long ago, Well by finish i mean i watched seasons 1-8 As i kept hearing nothing but bad things about season 9 and i mean the way they ended season 8 i felt like it was a perfect time to stop, So im sad to say goodbye to JD, Turk, Mr Cox and the rest of the gang but it is time for me to move on....

Thus i have started the short lived series "Better off Ted" Which seemed to have only lasted two season, I wonder if i will be happy or bummed about that decision? I also have a feeling I will be done with this show by my next update.

All thanks to netflix, Which happened yo have added the hit TV show "Mad Men" Which i do hope to start watching any time now, I just very much dislike hour long series, it doesnt fit as well in my nightly viewings. But it must be worth it right?

Anyways Thank you July for being a very pleasing month, Lets see if i can make up some time this August?

Check the Movie pages to see what else I have watched as of late.

The Post of May

Well it seems to be that time of the month... Yeah time for me to post a single update letting everyone who reads this what i have done in the month of may or since the last update, which was nearly 30 days ago.

I have finished a few seasons of Scrubs now thanks to netflix instant watch, I started season 4 the other night. Things with Scrubs and I seem to be going well, I really feel the connection others had talked about. Here's hoping things last long enough to finish strong.

Horrible movies seem to come out a whole lot faster than great movies. I have watched several B rated films or straight Trash as of late. Titanic 2 which was just.... Yeah along with titles like Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus. Which of course I knew wouldn't be that good but still.

Other films which didnt turn out very good happen to be things like "And Soon the Darkness" which I had found on netflix and hoped I would enjoy it because it seemed to be my type of film. Sadly it wasnt and it just turned out to be pretty boring even with a decent place to film they seemed to forget to tell a worth while story.

The Green Hornet was another film that for the most part surprised me, I didnt expect much from it but Seth Rogen fit pretty well in his role. Something I didnt believe would happen actually. Kato was casted very well to my surprise. Solid comedy act as long as you enjoy the type of work Seth does. I do have to say some of the action scenes just didnt float well with me. But the final action scene seemed to take all the good from the previous scenes and came together quit well.

Thor was a nice surprise as well. I had little hope for the movie going in but i came out very impressed and now i look forward to Caption America in hopes that Marvel can shock me once more this year as they build towards one of the biggest events in movie history.

Well to wrap this up I would like to toss a few movies out there that I think people should check out and let me know what You thought of them(along with any other movie you may have seen as of late)

The Man from Earth
Ink
Wilderness

These three titles have some high pros to them for either great action or wonderful story telling to just an awesome effort in making and indy film worth while.  I hope you find some enjoyment out of these films.

Insidious Scream

It has been a solid amount of time since the last update(as it always seems to be) but I have also been to the theaters two more times(for a total of 5 trips this year) as I watched Insidious(Check out my friends blog here for my thoughts and others) as well as finally seeing one of my most anticipated movies of the year in "Scream 4"

I do not want to ruin Scream for anyone but of course I do want to let people in on a little tidbit about the film... Its the FOURTH one in the series. So please for the love of slashers, Could you please watch the first movie at least? if not the original trilogy. Otherwise Scream 4 really blew my mind. It was fun and funny, without losing much of that little jumps that the first scream brought to the table. It whole heartily felt like a Scream movie and not just another cash in(IM more so looking at Nightmare on elm street 47) It was the perfect horror movie for movie geeks, They also seem to nod to the first film by basicly remaking it... Well hell You have seen the previews or the film by now, I enjoyed it. I hope you do too.

A few movies that I found that surprised me and would like to point out are the American remake of "The Experiment" which is on netflix right now. It has a solid cast and well its a remake of a great German film. I say check it out now.

Being bored one night i was looking for some Sci Fi to entertain me and i happen to stumble upon a movie called "Hunter Prey" which at first looked pretty horrible and expected total trash but as I started watching it, I must say the costume design and over all look of the film is amazing. Its a low budget film no doubt as the cast is only a hand full of nobodies but the story is worth the view if not just for the awesome visuals of the costumes and so on.

As for TV, I did finish season 1 of scrubs(I forget if i listed that in the last update but it was awhile back) I also have watched a few more episodes of the UK version of Skins, Which is still one of the best shows around.

In my Video Game world, I happen to buy the new Mortal Kombat. Its Awesome. It makes me think of my old school gamer days, when I would walk to my friends how just to play on his Sega. I still suck at it but its just so much fun. Plus it actually has a story mode worth while. Its as if the original game and the movie came together to be even more awesome. So yes. MK is worth while.

Well As always the movie list and List of Doom have been updated. So check em out.

The King Sucker Punch'd The Other Guys....

I do enjoy mixing up the names of movies i have watched as of late into a Title of my posts. But sometimes i just watch too many in between updates that the title would be crazy long.

First off, I watched a Horrible indy film called "Bear" Which of course is on Netflix Instant. It is however my type of film but just poorly done. That being a group of friends trying to survive in a crazy situation(think Frozen or 127 Hours) But seriously this was just laughable.

On the day that I bought the brand new Nintendo 3DS i also happen to watch a classic comedy called "Airheads" in which i thought.... Wow this is a film I hope never gets remade. It just would not work with the lack of Radio power and well good music, In My Opinion.

Over the weeks leading up to the release I had plenty of phone calls and people asking me when the movie "Tangled" was coming out, which caught me off guard as I dont really remember it doing all that well in the theaters but it sure has done very well on DVD as it sold out very fast at my work. I had to see what all the crazy mumbo jumbo was about...It was very good. Its classic Disney Musical. I have to say It has been a very long time since i have watched a movie in which ONE character always had me laughing when ever he/she was on screen. It happened in Tangled when The horse(Maximus) was on screen. I highly recommend this film for anyone, It will be a solid family film of course.

Talking about laughing when ever someone was on screen, That sadly did not happen while I watched the movie "Due Date" but that doesnt mean it wasnt good, I do wish it would have been better as I very much enjoy the work of Robert Downy Jr. As well as Zack whats his face. But something just didnt click the whole ride. But it was still worth a view on a boring day in which I needed a giggle.

When a film wins Best Picture it really should be the best picture over the past twelve months, In being one of the two films I failed to see out of the nominated movies of 2010, "The Kings Speech" was high on my list of must see. I'm not sure what to really say about this movie as it was good and enjoyable. A well told story that was greatly acted but I just found it lacking of Best Picture. I would still tell people to see the film but I guarantee it is not for everyone.

Cliche action films can be a bit of a boring viewing experience but every once in awhile something will come along full of Cliche ness but.... Surprise you in its fun adventure and for me that film was the slightly based on true events called "Unstoppable" staring Chris Pine and Mr. Washington. I was actually very shocked at how thrilling this cliche ride was. It was just plain fun and enjoyable.

Then came a bit of a Meh drought of films that included "The Proposal" Which I do love me some Ryan Reynolds but it just didnt really hit me in any good way, it just passed some time. That would also be said for the third Narnia movie(Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader) which I felt missed having Disney in its corner(instead of Fox) The budget or care just seemed to be lacking. But maybe that was the actual story as we have lost two main characters this time around. Then came more of an enjoyable viewing experience with "Despicable Me" It was a fun little ride with one cute character that easily made the film far better(plus it had the Minions) but at times I did feel it could have been a bit better.

I viewed "The Other Guys" finally which the reason it took me so long is Im not a fan of Neither Mark or Will so I really had no real reason to view the film. But It did have a quick few minutes with The Rock and Sam Jackson. Which was awesome and had a very what the hell kind of moment to it all. The film as a whole had some nice running jokes(TLC and learning to make fun of) but i still cant really get past either actor for the most part. Sorry.

I enjoyed the movie "Red" which i remember being one of the films I previewed at comic con that got the audience wondering if it would actually be worth while. I think it was. Enjoyable for any age. No wonder it sold so well at my work.

Made another adventure out to the local cinema to watch the new film from Zack Snyder "Sucker Punch" I have to say this is probably one of the hardest films to actually try and talk about... It was fun, Mindless.... Horrible.... Enjoyable.... What the hell did I just watch? Kind of film. The story didnt seem all there. Yet the strings some what held it together. But the true highlights of this film is the actually style and pulp of the movie(Design/music/worlds) all that kinda stuff.... Its just something I think people should see so they can judge themselves.

Alrighty that is my first update of April. I did a nice little run down. If anything you can always just check my Movie list above. Have fun, See a film.

Plus One!

So thanks to a lazy day off this past Wednesday I'm now actually up by one film(84 on the 83 day) which feels awesome :D

I watched yet another Ryan Reynolds movie(I seem to always watch and enjoy his work) this one was called "The Nines" Which is on Netflix instant watch(of course, How else do I watch stuff?) and its basically three different stories that slowly come together, I enjoyed the first story far more than the other two, As I feel the final one more so seemed to just quickly tie things together and explain the outcome. It was very good til towards the end I guess. But Ryan is still an awesome Actor, I like his multiple personalities an so on.

Ended up looking for an Action movie and "From Paris with Love" was what fell into my lap, nothing real special by any means but hey it was fun and i found some laughs in it as well. I once again didnt really care for the end of the film but oh well.

"Black Dynamite" is not for everyone but man was it filmed awesome or what? It seriously felt like it was a classic from the 60's or 70's but shockingly is from last year. Its a comedy action spoof deal not for everyone.

Saw a few other movies(which you can check the Movie list above to see what they are) But i wanted to also say that I finally beat the Xbox 360 video game "Enslaved: Odyssey to the West" yesterday, Its not a very long game by any means(My raptr account shows about 7 hours on it) but i kept playing an hour or a level a day so it took awhile to beat it. I very much enjoyed the easy to pick up and play kinda game. The fighting and shooting wasnt anything special but it still didnt get on my nerves, That would be the camera, specially at the final boss at the end. For some odd reason the camera got stuck in a far back view which nearly killed me.... But that was honestly my biggest problem with the game was the camera system.  I loved the story and the characters and the world you are thrust into. I say give it a try.

Running to 78

I have updated my list of watched films and as it stands now on the 78th day of 2011 I have watched 77 films, So i happen to be a little bit behind, But I think I'm doing pretty decent. I hope to catch up and be on track this coming week but you never know what will happen.

Thankfully Netflix and WWE have come to an agreement to show some wrestling stories on Watch Instant, which has been pretty awesome. WWE Can actually put together some decent productions if they want(True Story of WrestleMania) or they can half ass what they feel they can sell their fans(Rise & Fall of WCW) but over all its been pretty fun watching classic matches(highlights anyways) and interviews. WWE has a few more on the site to watch.

Anywho, Just figured I would update my Movie List and went ahead and typed this quick rant up as well, Have fun.

Battle!

I finally got to see another film on the big screen in 2011, Battle: Los Angeles.

I really enjoyed the film as a whole, It had its moments in which i kinda felt they should have cut a thing or two out of the film(I'm looking at you little Marine) But I think it kept the cheese factor at bay almost the whole film. It had its moments of "Whoa this is totally a video game" as well as "How freaky would this be on the news" Kinda stuff.

CGI was pretty most of the film, I think the only meh i had with it at all was the first time our marines face off with the aliens, other than that i think it was done very well, gritty and real. If we bring anything "real" into this film I have to say the shaky cam worked alot better for this movie then i had thought it would, I went in expecting to get dizzy and end up hating the camera work but over all I loved the Documentary feel we had for most of the film, It does jump out into a more action packed shaky cam but I was alright with that.

The cast was large but only a few characters really stand out, one of them happen to be Raper turned Actor "Ne-Yo" who i found to be one of my favorite characters in the film. But The lead role of Aaron Eckhart was amazing, I do wish the "little marine" part which i had talked about earlier could have been done differently but otherwise I loved it.

Anyways end that little mini review rant and would like to say my movie watching adventure has been doing alright. I have had some zero action days but thats just what happens, I also have had several action packed days with movies.

So I shall  update my movie lists now.

The dragon tattoo

I have finally finished reading(and watching) "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" I must say in the long run i enjoyed the book and after watching the movie i enjoyed the book even more so. I can not wait for the American remake, I do not believe i have evr looked forward to a remake more then I am for this one.

I have already started reading "The Girl who played with fire" I hope that this one will not be as hard to get into since i now know the list of characters and such, but we shall see.

My movie list of course has grown since but i figured I will not post them all in the update instead just update my Lists(found above) so that I can keep this update semi short.

Snowocalypes did keep me from doing plenty of things, including watching movies or even going to work, Had a pretty huge snow storm that completely covered my car let alone my town. So when the power went out i was by no means surprised. however it did make a perfect opportunity to read my kindle and dive deeper into Dragon Tattoo.

Since the last update I watched all of the British TV show "Survivors" Series One on Netflix instant(Have i mentioned how much i love netflix?) The show was pretty solid for the most part. Its very much so a zombie show without the zombies(aka humans trying to screw each other over and find moral reasoning and such) Some might just say its a post apocalyptic show....and they would be right. Most of the world is killed off leaving only a few survivors. I have not started Series 2 yet.

I also finally started watching "Justified" since i bought season one on DVD, I however did manage to get very far into it but the first disk is sitting next to the ol laptop so it might see some more play time in the near future.

Otherwise Just wanted to post a quick update to let whoever know that I did not die nor forget that i wanted to keep track of what I did in 2011, As well as try and watch over 365 movies this year.

Check the movie lists links above to see how I'm doing.

Catch up.

I have not forgotten about my goal to keep this updated, or to try and watch 365 movies. But i must admit i have had a day or two go by that i failed to find time for a movie. How ever I more than like;y was busy with something else.

Back in the day I watched a movie called "Quid Pro Quo" It was a freaky little title about people who wish they had a disability. It wasnt what i was expecting but at the same time I had no idea what to expect from the movie. It ended up being decent but not a film for everyone.

the 29th of January marked my first day that I failed to watch a movie. What was I doing? I honestly do not remember now....My Bad.

I watched yet another film with the awesome Ryan Reynolds in it this time about gambling winnings and doing the right thing called "Finders Fee" It was pretty good, Nice cast and of course I just cant hate on a Ryan Reynolds film.

Thanks to netflix i had "Home of the Brave" on blu ray sitting in my room for a few months so I figured what the hell lets give it a shot. It wasnt bad but it wasnt honestly all that good either, I understand what it was trying to do and the stories that it tried to tell is stuff that does happen but even with the solid cast i feel like it was lacking something to really keep me in it.

I finished the first season of "The Universe" which with the final episde clocking in at over an hour and a half i counted that final episode as a movie, basically a documentary. Why not? I must say the show is very cool and makes me think....Which might not be a good thing :-p

Time for a cheesy horror flick.... Which "The Hunt" was no doubt. It wasnt good either. Actually it was a pretty horrible type of cheese if I do say so myself. I'd say skip this one.

Random Documentary that I noticed a few friends had been watching as of late was "The Parking Lot Movie" So i gave it a view, it started out pretty slow but something about the idea and the lives of these people kinda kick started something that made it a worth while little movie.

On the 4th and 5th I missed movies, For some reason i really hope I was doing something worth while other than just working and falling asleep. But I have a feeling this was not true. I know I did manage to get some game time in so maybe this happened during this time frame? Lets hope.

Ahh Super Bowl 45, This game showed the Green Bay Packers kicking the Pittsburgh Steelers Booties. Which was Awesome as my brothers team lost and the home town kid won the super bowl! Congrats to Aaron Rodgers! Pretty awesome seeing my college on TV and what not. Let alone the area i live in.

After the long day and party that was the Super Bowl I happened to watch an animated film called "Metropia" Which apparently might have something to do with a famous foreign dead author(Hint hint? Maybe....Dragons?) But anyways the animation was a bit odd with the characters and how miss shappen yet realistic they happen to be. The story was a nice little MindScrew. I enjoyed it, Came out of the blue to be cool. I loved the world and the way it was so dark and gritty.

After what a decade? I finally watched "Meet the Parents" because it was on netflix instant(seriously i love this service, Ive watched so many movies that without it  I would never see) I must say I still found myself to smile a few times here and there but I did not do much of the Laughing out loud. But that just could be because Im not a huge fan of Ben Stiller. It wasnt horrible by any means. You could tell it is an older film  tho.

"When In Rome" Was a cute little romantic comedy that came outta netflix. I love Kristen Bell so that was my main if only reason to watch this movie but it was nice to see all the little cameos and small bits that some people had in it. It wasnt bad.

On febuary 9th I missed another movie but this time i had a decent reason... I went to my first concert of 2011! It was Rob MotherF**King Zombie! It was a pretty sweet show thanks to him. The opening act was pretty much crap. But Rob and his crew put on a nice showing. I would see him again no doubt. I hope he has better opening bands tho.

I watched American Teen which i had heard awhile back that it was pretty good but i must say I didnt find it all that great to be honest. It might just be my age? Or I just ignored most of the stuff they talked about when i was in high school. But i give credit to the crew of the movie as it must have taken alot of crap video to get what decent stuff they did manage to get.

I love me some Foreign films, Specially the ones from Japan :D So I finally watched "Man, Woman and the wall" which i have had on my instant Q longer than i can even remember. It was a tad bit creepy...Okay way creepy in my opinion but it was still good. The girl was Amazingly beautiful. Strange love story with a creepy side to it is always fun.

So that is my story as of what has happened over the past several days. Hopefully I wont be so lazy and I'll post an update sooner.

Wristcutting Chaos

This past few days has been full of win, Well when it comes to movies that is. But I did hook up my HDMI's up and I have been trying my best to read more of "Dragon Tattoo" I think it is starting to get good, Im on around chapter 6 right now.

The 23 was a good day for movies as both of my picks I would highly recommend to people, One being a movie staring Ryan Reynolds, Which you just cant go wrong with him honestly(well I hope i can say that after The Green Lantern hits theaters) "Chaos Theory" Its basically a love story....Which leads into my other favorite movie of this update "Wristcutters: A Love Story" Its a take on the after life which is pretty sweet, I dont want to go into much detail just because its a neat little world they take you to that might not be a huge difference but its enough to be its own awesome lil world.

I also finally watched "Goodbye Solo" which had been on my instant Q for I would say well over a year. It was a well deserved view, It gives you some hope for humanity yet...Its still a movie but it was a neat little tell about a taxi driver trying to save a mans life.

I dont enjoy watching movies alone yet it seems to always happens, which is why i have a solid chunk of horror films built up on my Q as I would rather watch it with someone(either because I might be a wuss or its just fun to jump with someone else) But either way I went to my foreign freaky friends and found a spanish film called "Shiver" which is about a boy who is basically a present day Vampire(minus the blood drinking) and to get away from the Sunny days he moves to a small town in the canyon basically to avoid sunlight. But then things go wrong and people die...but why? It was a cool and creepy tale for sure.

Went over to a friends house to help drywall a small guest house, that didnt go well so we ended up watching "Family Guy: Something something dark side" which was pretty funny an i had never seen the full thing til then. I had bought him the trilogy for the holidays, cool to get my moneys worth too haha.

Horror movies are something I need to start watching more of just so they dont over ruin my Netflix and try and murder me in my sleep... So I watched a movie about a Killer inside out cow called "isolation" I liked the lighting and stuff it set a nice tone but over all Im not sure how i felt about the film. It had some underline meaning to it but Im not one to pay attention to that stuff :-p Not hating i swear!

And finally I watched a cute little chick flick called "Penelope" I love me some Christina Ricci so I had no problem enjoying this movie....I even found her cute with a pig nose!

Well that is a nice little catch up on whats up in my journey to watch far too many movies in one year...I wonder whats next?

Oscar Buzz

Well the nominations for the 2011 Academy Awards are now out so I figured I would run down my picks for the show. Who knows what will happen....But this is what I think.

Best Movie
Who will win: The Kings Speech
Who I want to win: The Social Network

Best Actress:
Who will Win: Annette Bening- The kids are alright
Who I want to win: Jennifer Lawrence-Winters bone
----We could still see Portman walking away with the win but for some reason i doubt that will happen.

Best Actor:
Who will win: Colin Firth
Who I want to win: Jesse EisenBerg
---This is a hard one, I would also like to see Jeff Bridges win but i still think the work that Jesse put into TSN was just stunning, you love and hate him in it plus the different character he played compared to his prior works is amazing. He is a young actor on the rise, which really does hurt him In my opinion here. The same really goes for James Franco as well, I just dont see the younger guys winning it.

Best Supporting Actress:
Who will win: Helena Bonham Carter
Who I want to win: Hailee Steinfeld
---The easy pick for me would have been AMy Adams I think, but at the same time i think its going to be a pretty big year for Kings Speech. But man Steinfeld was so amazing in True Grit.

Best Supporting Actor:
Who will win: Christian Bale
Who I want to win: John Hawkes
---This could still go to anyone really, I think this is the most wide open of the awards. But I think people respect Bale for what he did to himself for his role in the fighter and just showed what he can bring to his movies even if he isnt the real star. But I also think that John Hawkes will be over looked majority in this category. He was amazing in Winters Bone, but he might not of had enough screen time to really prove it(then again i loved every second he appeared in the film)

Best  Adapted Screenplay:
Who will win: The Social Network
Who I want to win: The Social network
----This one might still go to 127 Hours but I'm not too sure on it over all.

Best Animated film:
Who will win: Toy Story 3
Who I want to win: Toy Story 3
---I know alot of people enjoyed HTTYD but i really dont think it was better than TS3. but it was nice to see something a bit new versus something that we had already seen twice.

Best Foreign Film:
Who will win: Biutiful
Who I want to win: Biutiful
----Of course this is the hardest one to pick as ive seen the least amount of films from this category.

Best Director:
Who will win:Darren Aronfsky
Who I want to win: David Fincher
---Could this be the category that wins it for True Grit? No I dont really think so. But this one is a bit more open, I Could still see Fincher walking away with the win but something tells me he will not and that Darren will be the one to give a speech.

Best Original Screenplay:
Who will win:The Kings Speech
Who I want to win: Inception.
----Like i said above I really think this year will have a few wins for The Kings Speech, but I also believe this might be the area we finally see INception(the fanboys film) win something.

Remember that movie?

I was looking around for a film to watch the other day to keep my movie watching experience going and I was looking over the 80 or so films on my Netflix Instant watch list and I was in a bit of a Sci Fi mood. So I picked "Fire in the Sky" off my list and started watching it.  As it went on I thought to myself this seems familiar....

It happened to be one of the movies that haunted me as a kid. I never could remember the name or anything about it other than it had an Alien prob scene that just gave me nightmares, the little grey aliens and all that stuff....Well it was this movie.

I have to say of course It isnt nearly as scary as it was when i was younger but to this day the Aliens look frigging creepy! Very well done for them to hold up this many years later. Still a pretty solid film too.

I also went ahead and watched the original "Lord of the Flies" since it was on my list from netflix(need to try and get that list down a bit so i can add more) But this wasnt as good of an experience as the movie before it was. It just doesnt live up as well as i had hoped. The Black and white doesnt bother me but the audio was horrible and the kids did what they could(considering back then they didnt even know what they had been doing) but Still it was a let down. But does make me look forward to "The Hunger Games" even more, I hope they dont screw that movie up. Loved the books.

Watched a movie called "Buying the cow" which has a younger Ryan Reynolds in it, Nice to see how far he has come but that he was still a very good actor and a movie star even earlier in his career, he just has that it factor for me to enjoy a movie even just for him.

"The Social Network" received its second viewing from me yesterday as I finally bought it and had my mom give it a view, she also enjoyed it. Doubtful she liked it as much as I did but oh well. I must say the Soundtrack on my sound system was even more awesome than when i first watched it.

Now as far as TV shows go, I started "The IT Crowd" Series 4 the other day and well I already finished it. Man I reALly enjoy that series as a whole. Such a great cast of characters that just blend so well. I just hate how short the seasons are... only six episodes.... But As far as I know all the seasons are on netflix instant so give it a try, a Geeky British comedy.

As this is typed "Repo! The Genetic Opera" is entertaining me an making it hard to focus on this. So i will now leave you alone until next time anyways.

Exit The Iron Cadie Treat

Okay so that didnt blend that well into a title for this post. but either way...The movie count is still going.

I also wanted to say I watched the Golden Globes and was very happy to see The social network win multiple awards including the best picture :D I also finally picked it up after work today so i can officially have it in my collection.

Finally watched "trick r treat" which was a nice little mix of horror and laughs with a type of story i enjoy(entangled) Better than most "horror" films you see out now, it wasnt scary but had some nice moments and well a story.

Also if you have not seen the TV show "Undercover Boss" i would say give it a shot, its not that bad for being one of them reality shows, i have no idea how fake it is but whatever its cool to see different points of different business and so on.

Best and Worst Movies of 2010

It is THAT time of the year again...well actually Im pretty late to the party but i have finally gotten around to making my top ten movies of 2010. It was harder than I thought it would be as 2010 ended up being weaker than i expected. But then again i was stuck with over 20 films to cut down to 10. So of course i also have some honorable mentions. If a movie is good i want you to see it, so why not tell ya?

Before I get into it i must say i may have missed a few films including but not limited to....
The fighter
Kings speech
Let Me In

So if you think something is missing you never know i might have missed the chance to see it.

1 The Social Network:
I had high expectations for this film for multiple reasons, From Cast to director to soundtrack.... Everything worked out perfect, for being a film about facebook that lacks any real action it is something that keeps you in the moment. I loved this movie beyond what i had expected. Justin and Jesse both surpass what i had expected from them in their careers in this one movie. Over Hyping it? Sorry Give it a chance would ya?

2. 127 Hours
A movie based on a  true story of a guy getting stuck while adventuring by himself, his life is on the line, hows the movie going to end? That doesn't matter from point a to b this movie held my attention and actually had one of the best final acts of any movie ever. That was intense. I think Danny and James should both get nominations for this film. So well done.

3. True Grit
The movie is not about action, shooting and killing, which is a pro in my book. the dialog was some of the best this year, the young actress(Hailee Steinfeld) in this film should have a bright future, The Cohens should get a Nod for it. Hell the whole cast really should. Damon even did a great job with his part. Brolin did well in his limited time and of course Bridges shined as a star that he is.

4. Black Swan
How could it feel so real? oh yeah Darren made it. Its a nice little twist of the mind, dark twist to Portman and her acting ability, It may have been a bit over hyped but so enjoyable.

5. Toy Story 3
Did you really think this would fail to make my list? One of the few movies i caught the midnight screening for. It did bring a bit of water to my face, idk what thats about but man was it funny, cute, pretty and well made.

6. Scott Pillgrim vs The world
The geek in me could never let this movie slip outta the top 10 list, Reading all the comics and seeing this, i could not believe how well it had been transitioned to film. Geeky and shinny, But truly not for everyone....

7. Winters Bone
One of the movies to make my list that i think plenty of people will never see, Im not even sure how i heard about it but im glad i did. Jennifer Lawerence is the one person that could give a solid fight for best actress. She sold her search for her father. with help from John Hawkes in a great role as well. The story that some people might miss made it better. Give it a try.

8. Inception
It has its flaws but many people will over look them and rank it far higher, But No way i could not have this on my list, it was fun and crazy, well done and well acted. I say a bit over hyped and i do have to say i hated everyone saying it blew their mind that they didnt understand and so on. But still Nolan shows that he makes Great movies for the movie goers.

9. Buried

When i walked out of this movie i thought it would be my favorite. This movie did the opposite of 127 hours, it kept Ryan in ONE spot the whole film, I never felt bored or that they should have done flashbacks or something.  I do have to say the end wasnt as good as i expected (poor acting or editing? Im not sure just that last bit...) But having such limited space(haha) and money for this movie to be as great as it is... Its a must see. If you watch 127 hours you must also give this movie a try. But keep in mind they take two different paths. Both star great actors.

10. Never Let Me Go
I was stuck on what to put at ten to finish my list and the one movie that kept kicking me was "never let me go" and i just had to put it on, Andrew Garfield is amazing and shows another side of himself in this IMO. Young group of actors(with one vet really) take a nice little sci fi flick and make it something you would never guess is Sci Fi related. I dont want to spoil anything but i noticed it was spoiled for multiple people. Its cute and cruel and just makes you think, I enjoy thinking.

Honorable Mentions

11 Easy A:
I dont think any movie stood out more to me as a "oh my god that actually was good..." Then Easy A, its just a feel good movie with a great cast, You really should see it. Plus Emma Stone=UH Mazing.

12 Catfish:
I loved the hype to this movie, the mystery of it was just incredible, Sadly i never did see it in theaters but maybe thats for the best, I enjoyed watching it and being surprised. If you have had the film ruined for you, you will not find it as enjoyable but it was cool.

13 Monsters
This movie would easily be in my top 5 best trailers of any film. Sadly the movie wasnt like that, but i still found it very good and a must see, just know its not what you expect.

14. Kickass:
Hit Girl. Need I say more? If I do... Nick Cage in his best role in ages. Fun, Gritty, Funny, Enjoyable. Geeky. Watch it.

15. Karate Kid:
Yeah. I did just list the remake to one of the coolest movies of my childhood. But i think about it in a whole nother light. If this movie wasnt called "Karate Kid" Or it would be far better and i think more people would have given it a chance. Jade and Jackie both deliver great performances. It was cool to see Jackie in this type of role and Jade just shows that he can fill his dad's shoes if not out grow them even.

Horrible Mentions:
The Last Airbender:
I wont even say anything.

Skyline:
Okay so this could have been on the other list but... they ruined it with the previews and the last ten minutes or so. its nowhere near as bad as TLA but the end was horrible.

Clash of the titans:
Ive heard its better after more viewings but i dont want to view it again, i didnt even see it in crappy 3d and i still disliked it.

Or any other movie i couldnt even think of....

So what made now its your turn. top 10?

Oh yeah updates?

So i have not fallen behind, I have kept up with watching a movie a day but i have lost some time that could go into actually updating my list. Oh well.

On monday i watched the BCS Natinal Championship game and watched the Ducks lose 22-19 But local boy Jeff Maehl did very good, i hope he makes it in the NFL.

As for the movie of monday i watched Dawn of the Dead 2004 version from Zack Snyder. I have seen it multiple times so sadly it was nothing new to me but hey its all good.

On tuesday i watched the classic "Little Shop of Horrors" for the first full time, enjoyed the cheese fact for sure.

and then i had an adventure the next day when i drove a few hours to visit my dad in the hospital, we had a rental car so i drove a new Nissan Versa, tiny little car but it was fun. I came home and watched the awesome "Starman" movie staring Jeff Brides from back in the day. Is he a great actor or what?

Anyways now i have just a little time left to figure out what im watching for today so off I go.

127 Updates

Okay so I lied about the 127 updates, I didnt accomplished that much stuff in the past few days. But i did manage to watch one of the best films of 2010. But I do have some updates and also news for this blog.

I didnt really think "2011 By Scoobydiesel" was the greatest name ever but I did think up the name "The Geek Reel" as It is a nice little nod to my other site "The B Reel" So we now have a new domain name www.thegeekreel.com :D Logo may come soon haha.

I didnt manage to do much on the 8th but I did go to the movies after work with a friend, We almost watched "The Fighter" but Im not a big fan of Mark nor did my friend really want to catch this flick so instead we found our way to "Gullivers Travels", Its not a bad comedy but its nothing to really tell people about either. I do enjoy the original story and this Jack Black take on it is crude and dumb just like you would expect, that doesnt mean its bad but it isnt for everyone.

But the 9th has been a very worth while day off  thanks to the NFL Wild Card weekend, The Ravens did just as i expected and put the Chiefs to sleep. They will head on in my Bracket to face their rival the Pittsburgh Steelers. However once again the NFC changes things up for me as the Packers went on to beat Vick and his Eagles in philly. I wasnt surprised by this either and I honestly wanted the Packers to win but my pick to win this game was the Eagles. So I'm 2-2 this weekend(Jets and Seahawks won yesterday) I seem to know the AFC but i take my heart and not gut in the NFC and have yet to get a pick right.

I stumbled upon a new show from revision3 called "A.V. Talk" I had not seen or heard anything about it, not even promos on the other shows i watch on Revision3. But i found myself watching both of the first two episodes talking about their top 10 movies of 2010, it was nice to see some of mine make their list but they definitely had plenty of movies i have not seen on their list as well. Looking forward to what this show will bring in the future episodes, if its worth it or not.

Then came the best of the weekend... "127 Hours". I finally got around to seeing one of the most talked about movies of the year and it was well worth it. I already did a write up on it over on www.thebreel.com so check it out.

Now it is time to finish today off with "Never Let Me Go" so i guess i should add that to the watched list.

January 6th & 7th

So I started a new book on January 6th, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" I really hope to get into and enjoy this series as a whole, I know plenty of people have said great things about it, but Im hardly into the first chapter(and the prologue deal) and must say its not grabbing me yet, Its differently a different type of book and style than "The Hunger Games" harder to read with the foreign places and names haha.

I also watched the classic Clint Eastwood movie "A Fistful of Dollars" which was fun since i had watched True Grit not long ago and I loved Red Dead Redemption last year. I really wish that we could have a new audio track to the movie but thats fine it makes it more classic. Everyones audio is all off sync and just horrible other than Clints, but then again hes all that matters right? Wonder If i will watch the other films in the "Man with no name" trilogy this year.

Then came the crap.... Saw that netflix had some dumb college humor movies so i picked one and watched it, that one movie was "Foreign Exchange" Not a good film, Hardly funny or enjoyable but it had some decent moments every once in awhile. But I do not recommend watching it.

And then came January 7th. Not much happen besides "The Shawshank Redemption" thanks to netflix.

January 5th update

Well yeah today isnt really the 5th but hey who's looking at the calender?

So i have a few things to update on...

I noticed Netflix had added the third season of "Man vs Food" to their watch instantly section, So of course i had to start watching that. I only watched two episodes but Hey for the first time in the series I have actually been to one of the main battle places he has attended. The Broken Yoke in San Diego.

I watched both "Dinner for Schmucks" and "The Town" yesterday, Way different films of course but hey i found enjoyment in both places. The Town was actually alot better than i had expected and I do understand the name of the movie but from the outside looking in man its a horrible name for such a solid movie. But I do hope people give it a shot.
As for Dinner for Schmucks, it was decent it made me laugh out loud on several occasions and i have to say Paul Rudd is becoming more and more likeable as his career goes on. Steve is still a creepy funny guy as well.

I finished reading "Mockingjay" as well. You can check out my over all thoughts on that here: http://www.goodreads.com/scoobydiesel

So that is a pretty solid update. I think I might have to start an actual list on the site as well, ya know minus my rambling.

NFL Post Season Picks.

I was just talking with a friend on facebook about picks for this coming super bowl and i went a little into it and figured i would toss my prediction out on my 2011 blog. So why not?

Wild Card:
Jets over Colts(shocking upset)
Ravens over Chiefs(honestly these are the two id cheer for but they already play each other, Ravens ave been my pick for so long but i just dont see both wild cards winning but...i guess so)
...
Divisional:
Pats over Jets
Ravens over Steelers

Championship:
Ravens upset Pats

NFC

Wild Card:
Eagles over packers(sadly the pack is hurting, but i do think that philly has a huge weak spot)
Saints over Seahawks(now could we see basically the biggest upset in the world? na saints roll on)

Divisional:
Falcons over Saints(matty ice gets revenge at home)
Bears over eagles(that weakness is spotted and the bears break vick barley in a very sloppy game)

Championship:
Falcons over Bears(Hot Lanta runs wild on Da bears D an eat cutler alive)

Superbowl picks

Falcons over Ravens.

my Sb pick since preseason looks to become a reality.

Movies and the Past

Well since I didnt start this blog until a day had already past by from the new year i guess I should list what i have already started to do.

Movies:
1-1-11
Urban Explorers: Into the Darkness
1-2-11
This Film Is Not Yet Rated
Black Swan

Games:
Hour of Kinect, Your Shape Fitness Evolved

Books:
I had started reading it on Dec 29th but I continue to read "Mockingjay" which is the last book in the "Hunger Games" trilogy.

Television:
I have yet to start a new show this year or even continue one. I might start seaosn 2 of Dr Who tho.

Why?

Why am I creating another blog or site? Well because I want to and thats what matters.

This blog will hopefully see an update every day, That does not mean it will be a full indepth post like a review or a long winded rant about this or that(kinda like how this may end up to be) but more so just a place for me to put down the things I may have done in that day in the year 2011.

  1. I want to watch a movie a day. (end the year with 365 movies watched)
  2. I want to read several books this year. (I now own a Kindle)
  3. I want to play the Kinect multiple times a week. (I own Your Shape Fitness Evolved)
  4. I want to play Video Games more often than I did in 2010. (My top of 2010 was too short)
  5. I want to catch up on some Television shows. (I started to watch more thanks to Netflix)
  6. I want to write down things just because I can. (That is what Im doing)

And that is hopefully what I will do this year in this little blog. That doesn't mean I wont just repost something i wrote up for www.thebreel.com but it could be.
